Questions & Answers for Garage Pro GARAGE-PRO™ BACK-UP SENSOR SYSTEMS
Question
Why won't it work on steel?
Is there a particular reason it specifies not to mount on steel or chrome? Does the steel render the sensors inoperative? If I mounted the sensors on a non-metallic mount below the rear bumper, would that work and would they need to be mounted at a minimum distance from the bumper? I have a 93 F250 with a steel step bumper and I would really like to install this product, especially while it's on sale.

The previous answer is correct in pointing out you will get false alerts if you install this item on a steel faced bumper. This is only advised for plastic fascia equipped cars and SUV's.

I installed these in the rear bumper of a 2000 F-250. I did have to buy a bimetal hole saw for drilling through the steel bumper. They have been working fine for over a year. The only issue I have had as of late is that in warm weather, I am getting a false signal and beeping will drive you nuts.
