a 3 way speaker is woofer, midrange,and tweeter. your dash speakers are 4x6 and your rears are 6x9 and they are compatible

No, it would be the overall size of the speaker minus mounting edges/holes. However, car speakers tend to be semi-universal as most vehicles feature a common size of speaker (i.e. 5x7). If you are close in measurement, it is a safe bet to assume they are the correct size. Thanks for your question!

what is the 'thickness' of these speakers from the back of the magnet to the grill face.
